JOINING THE ANCHORPOINT FAMILY

For Youth & Families

Transitioning into adulthood can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re doing it without a traditional support system. At AnchorPointVA, you are not expected to figure everything out on your own.

We provide a structured, supportive environment where youth can grow, learn, and build confidence while preparing for independent living. Families, guardians, and support systems are valued partners in this journey.

A Safe Place to Grow

AnchorPointVA offers more than housing—we offer stability, guidance, and encouragement during one of life’s most important transitions.

Youth in our program live in safe, supportive housing and receive individualized care designed to help them:

  • Build independence at a realistic pace
  • Learn practical life skills
  • Develop healthy routines and habits
  • Gain confidence in decision-making

Our goal is to help youth feel secure enough to focus on growth, not survival.

What Life at AnchorPointVA Looks Like

Life in the program is structured, supportive, and intentional.

Youth can expect:

  • A welcoming start with welcome baskets, journals, and life books to organize important documents
  • Support setting up living spaces using provided essentials like bedding, towels, and basic décor
  • Weekly check-ins with a dedicated case manager
  • Guidance with budgeting, cooking, transportation, and time management
  • Monthly self-care outings to encourage balance and wellness

Every youth's experience is personalized, because no two journeys are the same.

Young Adults-1
Expectations & Accountability

AnchorPointVA is designed for youth who are ready to take steps toward independence with support and accountability.

Youth in the program are expected to:

  • Be enrolled in DSS Fostering Futures
  • Attend school or maintain employment
  • Participate in life skills development
  • Follow program guidelines and housing expectations
  • Communicate openly and ask for help when challenges arise

We don’t expect perfection. We do expect effort, honesty, and a willingness to grow.

Support Beyond Housing

Our team walks alongside youth through real-life experiences that build independence, including:

  • Budgeting and managing a weekly allowance
  • Grocery shopping, menu planning, and cooking skills
  • Scheduling and attending medical, dental, and therapy appointments
  • Medication management and healthcare coordination
  • Learning how to use public transportation
  • Preparing for vehicle ownership through matched auto savings

This hands-on approach helps youth gain confidence in managing daily responsibilities.

A Lifelong Support System

AnchorPointVA believes that mentorship doesn’t end when a program does.

We remain a source of guidance, encouragement, and support even after youth transition out of the program. Our extended-family model ensures youth always have a trusted connection to return to as they continue building their future.

For Families & Support Systems

Families, guardians, and support networks play an important role in each youth's success.

We value open communication and collaboration, and we work closely with:

  • Families and guardians
  • Social workers and case managers
  • Community partners and mentors

Together, we help ensure youth feel supported, understood, and prepared for adulthood.
