JOINING THE ANCHORPOINT FAMILY

Independent Living Support for Youth & Families in the Central Virginia Region

Transitioning into adulthood can feel overwhelming—especially without a consistent support system. At AnchorPointVA, we provide independent living support for youth across Madison, Fredericksburg, Culpeper, Orange, Greene, Charlottesville, and surrounding Central Virginia communities.

Youth are not expected to navigate independent living alone. Our program provides structure, guidance, and real-world support to help youth build confidence, stability, and the skills needed for independent adulthood.

Families, guardians, and support systems remain important partners throughout this transition.

A Safe Place to Grow and Prepare for Independent Living

AnchorPointVA provides more than housing—we provide a structured environment where youth can safely develop independent living skills while building confidence and stability.

Youth in our program receive support designed to help them:

  • Build independent living skills at a realistic pace
  • Develop daily routines and responsibilities
  • Learn practical life skills for independent adulthood
  • Gain confidence in decision-making

Our goal is to ensure youth across Central Virginia feel supported as they prepare for independent living—not overwhelmed by it.

What Life Looks Like in an Independent Living Program

Life in the program is structured, supportive, and intentionally designed to help youth across Madison, Fredericksburg, and surrounding Central Virginia communities prepare for independent living.

Youth can expect:

  • A welcoming start with journals and life books to organize important documents
  • Support in setting up living spaces with essential household items
  • Weekly check-ins with a dedicated case manager
  • Guidance with budgeting, cooking, transportation, and time management
  • Monthly self-care outings to encourage balance and wellness

Every youth’s independent living journey is personalized, because no two paths to independence are the same.

Expectations & Accountability

AnchorPointVA is designed for youth who are ready to take steps toward independence with support and accountability.

Youth in the program are expected to:

  • Be enrolled in DSS Fostering Futures
  • Attend school or maintain employment
  • Participate in life skills development
  • Follow program guidelines and housing expectations
  • Communicate openly and ask for help when challenges arise

We don’t expect perfection. We do expect effort, honesty, and a willingness to grow.

Support Beyond Housing

Our team walks alongside youth through real-life experiences that build independence, including:

  • Budgeting and managing a weekly allowance
  • Grocery shopping, menu planning, and cooking skills
  • Scheduling and attending medical, dental, and therapy appointments
  • Medication management and healthcare coordination
  • Learning how to use public transportation
  • Preparing for vehicle ownership through matched auto savings

This hands-on approach helps youth gain confidence in managing daily responsibilities.

A Lifelong Support System

AnchorPointVA believes that mentorship doesn’t end when a program does.

We remain a source of guidance, encouragement, and support even after youth transition out of the program. Our extended-family model ensures youth always have a trusted connection to return to as they continue building their future.

For Families & Support Systems

Families, guardians, and support networks play an important role in each youth's success.

We value open communication and collaboration, and we work closely with:

  • Families and guardians
  • Social workers and case managers
  • Community partners and mentors

Together, we help ensure youth feel supported, understood, and prepared for adulthood.
